ISO certification has traditionally been the first step in this recognition scheme as a base for further recognition using the EFQM Excellence model. More than one hundred organisations have obtained a Commitment to Excellence Diploma after self-assessment and an improvement plan drawn up with external support. Additionally, over 165 organisations have been awarded the Silver Q (400+ points) or Gold Q - Basque Quality Award (500+ points) after a rigorous external assessment process against the EFQM business Excellence model, similar to the European Quality Award process. On the 40 Gold Q organisations, 13 have been recognised as finalists or prize winners in the EEA, including large companies, SMEs and public sector organisations. EUSKALIT encourages organisations to obtain higher external recognition, but the main target is to contribute to their continuous improvement and competitiveness.
